On Feb 1, the United States announced it is imposing 25% tariffs on Canadian goods (10% on energy) imported into the USA. At the time of writing this, the tariffs are expected to go into effect in 30 days.
Like so many Canadians, Salmon Arm Economic Development Society (SAEDS) is truly disappointed in the decision of the US Government to impose the tariffs. We recognize this action will have direct consequences on Canadian livelihoods. At SAEDS, we are focusing on supporting our businesses with information sharing and resources, as well as supporting residents with information on locally grown and locally produced products and the impact of buying Canadian.
We have developed a Tariff Resource page below and we will do our best to keep this resource up to date for local businesses, as news progresses. In addition, we are pleased to share that we will be launching the first ever Shuswap Food Directory. This will be an online searchable resource identifying Shuswap grown and Shuswap produced food and where you can buy these items. We look forward to launching this resource in the coming weeks, stay tuned for more information.
