Earlier this year the Okanagan College Foundation was successful in obtaining a $10,000 grant from the BC Rural Dividend Program to undertake a project that will encourage industry engagement in the establishment of a two-year action plan for education and training opportunities that would best meet the needs of the local technology-related sector in Salmon Arm and the Shuswap.  The study has been underway for the past several months, with a completion date that was set for September 29, 2017.

This study has engaged stakeholders, business leaders, sector specialists, educators, and students.  The final report will outline short- and long-term training needs, and recommend actions and strategies that can be put into place by Okanagan College to stimulate workforce development in this important sector of the local and regional economy.  “This project is meant to parallel and enhance the Salmon Arm Innovation Centre Project” explains Joan Ragsdale, Regional Dean for the Shuswap-Revelstoke Campus of Okanagan College, “we are excited to be moving this responsive technology sector training plan forward!
